CORY CORBETT
Cory Rose Corbett, born in Rogers, Arkansas in 1979, works primarily with porcelain clay, sculpting her forms over an armature before bisque firing them to a luminous white finish. She explores a variety of surface treatments, ranging from paint and glaze to unconventional materials like wood stain—while allowing the clay’s natural character to shine through.
Her most striking works are her human faces, rendered with raw emotion and subtle expression, a notoriously difficult sculptural skill she approaches with instinct rather than formal training. The origins of her practice are as unexpected as they are unstudied, giving her art a singular curiosity and authenticity.
